Breathe. Begin. Finish.

Things that excite you aren’t random.
They are connected to your purpose.
Follow them.

It was an evening conversation. Separated by 1,200 miles I was connected with a friend online, discussing what it means to have a passion project and how it can affect your life in many positive ways.

How wonderful it is to have someone in your life who is engaged in their own creative journey, who understands the struggle, yet adds just enough fuel to a solitary spark-of-an-idea nestled in your mind that it becomes a raging inferno you can no longer ignore.

Why do we so often keep ourselves from those things that excite us?

Sometimes I think our minds won’t let us get out of our own way.

A little over a year ago, this Northern California native was sitting alone in a Starbucks, looking out over the simmering desert of Arizona, pondering how she’d gotten there and trying to figure out what to do to move forward with her life. After experiencing a heartbreaking plot twist, she was incredibly uncertain of what her personal story had been about.

There were moments when I feared I never would crawl out of my situation and raise myself up and out to something happier. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned about myself: I’m no quitter! Like all good introverts who become overwhelmed and over-stimulated by life, we rest, restore, and then go take on the world all over again. Face it, we’re also stubborn.

You never realize how strong you are, until being strong is the only choice you have.

I think deep down, as I slowly sipped my coffee that day, I knew exactly what it was my heart desired and what my soul required to be happy. The question haunting me, waking me up in the middle of those long, arid nights was how to make it happen. Stuck on what felt like a never ending repeat of the try-fail-cycle, I felt like a hamster on a wheel, running for her life yet going nowhere.

In the last several years, I’ve learned many life lessons–but one of the most powerful ones has been to trust my inner compass. In moments when I’ve trusted my instinct and made a scary-as-hell leap towards something desired, I’ve yielded some fascinating results that are simply worth writing about.

This is a blog about finding strength when you don’t think you have any left. It’s about finding your breath after having the wind knocked out of you. It’s about keeping your chin up when you’ve fallen down hard and scraped your knees on the unforgiving asphalt. This, is a story that keeps on having its plot twists, but holds tightly to all the little quiet endeavours that fill life with wonder and remind you to breathe again so that you can begin your dreams and champion your own endings.
