These are stressful, anxious times my fellow introverts. I hope you’re getting the separation you need to rest, restore and recover your spirit and perhaps too, your sense of humor. I know I’ve gotten very quiet and serious lately. There’s always a lot on my mind, and if you’re anything like me, you might find it hard to silence the inner chatter when it comes time to turn off the light and get a good night’s sleep.
A good night’s sleep. I thought I was doing pretty well in that category until a new FitBit came into my life. My doctor recommended I get a smart watch to monitor my health leading up to some future tests. So I went looking at what was available–and what I could afford. What seems like a lifetime ago, the version I once had was probably one of the first-generation models. I shouldn’t have been surprised at how they had evolved. One of the new features I’m fascinated with is the “sleep score” and the accompanying display of the different sleep rhythms I’m passing through and bouncing around in throughout the night.
There’s still a bit of that student in me that when she sees “good” as her rating wonders, “What’s better than good? And how do I get there?”
But for now, with all that is going on in these times, I’ll absolutely embrace “good” and be grateful I’m doing that well and be glad it doesn’t read “nice try” or “dismal” or “nothing to see here”.
I believe what’s helping me reach “good” has been the discovery, and repeated use of some really delightful videos I found on YouTube that are meant for study, mediation, sleeping, and simply whenever you might desire a little calm as a background soundtrack.
Here are a few of my favorites:
Relaxing Town – Cozy Ambience Bedroom- Rain on the Windows of the Rainy Night View of the City
It may seem strange to listen to a video of falling rain against a window when I live in a city known for it’s ten-months-a-year rainy days, but seldom do we get a downpour so heavy as is in this video. There are many videos to be found of rain, some with wind, or thunder and lightning. And plenty of different scenes. City view? Country? Beach or mountain? There seems to be something for everyone.
Calmed By Nature – Cozy Fall Coffee Shop Ambience: Relaxing Jazz Music and Rain Sounds
If the white-noise of rain isn’t quite your thing, there’s also coffee-house jazz. I tend to play this one while doing chores but it makes me miss the people and groups I used to meetup with within those coffee shops. I hope the day returns when we can all meet together again soon, and in person.
Healing Vibrations – Peaceful Crystal Singing Bowls
I’m always interested in learning about increasing one’s vibration to attract better. I was introduced to Singing Bowls decades ago as a form of meditation. Add glowing Singing Bowls and I’m even more fascinated! How can you be sad or worried when there are all those pretty colors to gaze at?
More than ever, we need to find ways to take care of ourselves. A good night’s sleep gives us the strength we need to face the challenges of tomorrow. I hope in these video suggestions, or wherever these videos lead you, you find some calm and restoration that works for you.
Stay healthy and safe.
